After playing in my Dylusions art journal the other day I decided to make another art journal page the next day because I enjoyed playing in the journal so much the day before. I didn’t have a plan just like the previous day and I seem to have more fun that way. I wanted to use up more of my “stuff” so I decided on the journal paper on the left side of the page, some washi tape and a bunch of paper die cut flowers I have had in a box for some time. By the way, that box does not dwindle. It’s still as full as ever. What is up with that? lol Then, I set about just playing and I like what I wound up with. I need to make an effort to journal in my art journals at least once a week. 🙂
I have a couple of drawers full of flowers I use in my creations. I have gone through those drawers and using up the flowers pretty fast. I am close to being able to move all the flowers into one draw. I have learned over the years what I do and don’t like so in the future I will be more selective when I buy flowers. Then, you have to account for taste changes. What I once liked could be something I don’t like after having it in a drawer for 20 years. No more of that. That stuff has to go. So, I took some odd flowers I had and added my strips of fabric to them to make them flowers I like and will use. There is a video on you YouTube channel if you would like to see the process of how I made them. It was fun to use up old stuff and create something ‘new’ that won’t go to waste. 🙂
I was in the mood to do some playful art journaling so I grabbed up my larger, and sorely neglected, Dylusions art journal and started slapping down some paint without a plan other than just have some fun. After a while I started seeing some sections of the pages that looked like a flower and hair so I started building on those areas. That is how this playful, prim looking girl showed up. I call her “Happy Flower Girl” for a reason but it’s a little personal so I’ll leave her story to your imagination. I think I have more fun when I have no plan and don’t care what the outcome is so I need to stop hiding from my journal and use it more often than I do. Have fun playing in your art journals. 🙂
Each month I create a journal page in my calendar for the previous year using the art in the calendar as inspiration for my page. May’s calendar page is called “Friendly Flowers”. I used a piece of paper bag from my “Junk Your Stuff” project that had the words “friendly flowers” on it because I thought it was so cute. I really enjoy working in my calendar each month and as the year goes by I mark in the new current calendar so that when the year is over I can start creating in it for the following year. Here are photos of the May calendar page and a link to the video. I hope you feel inspired to do something creative. 🙂
I decided to create a Part III video to the “Junk Your Stuff” Junk Journal From Paper Bags project. I wanted you to see how I work in my journal and hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration for working in yours journals. I also mentioned in one of my videos how the “Pockets and Posies” pockets would look great in these journals. I made one and love it. There will be photos of it below. Here are some photos of the pages I created in my junk journal as well as a link to the video showing you how I created it. I hope you feel inspired.
A few weeks ago, I was cleaning out a cabinet in my kitchen where I keep plastic and paper bags. When I saw the stack of paper bags (see above photo) I had kept from grocery shopping trips I thought, hmmm, I don’t need all these bags so I will throw them away. At the time I was saving them I was thinking I really wanted to make something artsy with them but the stack kept growing and nothing artsy was being made. So, I grabbed the entire stack and set them on the counter to be tossed out when I was done. When I was finished with the cabinet cleaning, I walked over to the paper bags and picked them up to carry out to the trash can. But I hesitated. The crinkly sound the bags made and the feel of the paper was sooooo appealing. lol I thought, ok, I need to make something with these bags. But I made myself a deal. I could keep the bags as long as I actually used them to make something. If I didn’t start using them that week they were going in the trash. So, I took them up to my art studio to await their fate. lol The very next day I started making my Junk Your Stuff journals. I worked my way through each and every paper bag. Then, I went through my drawers and storage containers and pulled out all kinds of stuff I have been wanting to use up to decorate them. I have to say I am very pleased that I used all of the bags and I love how they turned out. I hope you enjoy the photos below and there is also a link to the video where I show you how I made them. Now, go Junk Your Stuff! 🙂
