Junk Your Stuff – Tags Using Packaging Part 1

Junk Your Stuff – Tags From Packaging

Here we go again…Junking Our Stuff. lol While creating the “Junk Your Stuff” Paper Bag Journals I used up a lot of product but I also wound up with a boat load of packaging. I started cutting the packaging into tag shapes of various sizes and started making tags using more of my stash. This first group of tags was a lot of fun to make but I have a lot of tags to make and a lot of stash to use so there will be a several parts to this series. ¬†I hope you enjoy and get some ideas. Thank you for watching. ūüôā

“Waiting For Fall” Art Journal Page

Waiting For Fall

The last few mornings I have been out on my bike ride it has felt like Fall and it’s still early August in Tennessee. ¬†The breeze has felt cool making it easier to “do my time”. ¬†lol ¬†But it sure has made me eager for Fall which is one of my favorite times of the year. ¬†So, when I sat down to play in my art journal I had no idea what would show up. But, based on the page you see pictured here I think I had Fall on my mind just a¬†bit. I love Fall, I love creating and I love this page. ¬†By the way, I did film this process but I neglected to change the battery in my cameras remote control so half of the video was filmed “on” when it¬†was supposed¬†to be¬†“off” and vice versa. ¬†Soooo, no video. I may go ahead and put it up just for fun though. ¬†We’ll see. ¬†Thanks for stopping by.

Sometimes You Just Want To Play

Art Journal Play

It’s playtime!!! ¬†Your art journal is your playground. ¬†When I have no idea what I want to create I might open my art journal and just put in some washi tape and a few scraps. Or, I might scribble with a black marker then add some paint color in random places. ¬†It’s just fun to play in your art journal without a plan. It’s very freeing and opens up your mind to all kinds of creative inspiration. ¬†I just wanted to share a few photos of some art journal pages from one of my journals where I was just playing around and having a good time. ¬†Art is fun. ¬†The process of learning is exciting. ¬†Don’t wait until you think you have learned enough to start. ¬†Just jump in and play and let the journey take you where it wants to go. ¬†Just have fun.

Until next time.

Dried Flowers Canvas

Dried Flowers On Canvas

This is the¬†last¬†project where I was able to use some of the beautiful flowers I dried from¬†a mother’s day¬†bouquet from my family. I wanted to use the loose petals that fell¬†from¬†one of the flowers so I added them to the bottom of the canvas as if they came off the single flower on the side of the canvas. ¬†I loved the scrapbook paper I had in my scrap¬†bin¬†so I made a¬†flower-pot¬†to use the other dried flower spray I had left. ¬†I used old book text to make the leaves and I used ¬†old music paper at the top and bottom just because I liked it. ¬†There is a thin umber brown glaze coating on top of the canvas to give it a¬†bit¬†of an aged look. ¬†There is a video showing the process of how I made the canvas. I hope you enjoy.

“Bird” June Calendar Page Using 2016 Calendar For Inspiration

“Bird” June Calendar Page

This is the June Calendar Art Journal Page that almost wasn’t. lol ¬†Sometimes things just don’t go very smoothly when you are creating and this was one of those times. ¬†But, its times like this that make me love the pieces that come out the way you want them to even more. And it is times like this help me appreciate the process and learn to look past a “pretty face” and see that the fun is in the journey. ¬†Without the journey of ups and down, good and bad, pretty art and not so pretty art we might miss something important in our learning process. ¬†I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to miss a single step in my art journey. ¬†Thank you for joining me on my journey and I hope you are on one of your own.

“Information You Can Use” (All Because Of Scraps) Art Journal Page

“Information You Can Use” Art Journal Page

I was in the mood to play in my “All Because Of Scraps” art journal the other day so I gathered up some scraps and glued them down on the page. ¬†Below are step by step photos of the process. ¬†It’s fun, relaxing and a easy way to use up scraps in your scrap bin. ¬†Give it a try. ¬†You ¬†never know what you will get just from using scraps.

Laurie

Step 1: Starting with a blank page, I glued down scraps from my scrap bin on the page using a glue stick.

Step 2 : I glued down some borders I have had in my stash a long time. I cut them into different lengths and glued those on top of the scraps with a glue stick.

This is what the page looks like after the borders were glued on.

Step 3: I also had some negative space die cut scraps in my scrap bin so I pulled those out and glued them on top of the borders with a glue stick.

Step 4: I painted around the shapes of the negative space die cuts.

Step 5:  I used white paint and a floral stencil all over the page.

Step 6: I used blue paint and a floral stencil all over the white stenciling.

Step 7: I used black paint and a letter stencil over the blue stenciling.

Step 8:  I added some words to all of the bottles.

Step 9: I painted a small section with a little bit of white paint so I could add a title. ¬†Then, I added the title “Information You Can Use”. This is just a partial sentence I cut out of a magazine. I thought it was interesting so I added it.

Step 10: With a black Posca pen I outlined the title, the bottles and the words on the bottles. Then I added white dots around the black outline on the bottles using a Sharpie White Poster Paint Pen (water based) marker.

Step 11: I mixed some raw umber and glazing medium together in equal parts and painted it over the entire page. I let it dry just a few seconds then I wiped off the excess with a soft cloth leaving a light stained color on the page.

Step 12: I sealed the page with a light coat of Mod Podge.

That’s it. ¬†I love how it came out. This page would not exist if not for scraps. ¬†But it DOES exist now All Because Of Scraps! ūüôā

Colorful Tags Using Dried Flowers From Mothers Day

Dried Flower Tags

For Mothers Day I received a beautiful flower arrangement from my son, daughter-n-law and two sweet grandchildren. I hated to see them start dying so I decided to dry a few of the flowers and make something with them so I would have the memory of them as long as they lasted.  They should last for a long time too.  So, I made a paper bag journal and used some of the flowers. Then, I made some tags using almost the rest of them. I set a couple aside to use on a canvas.  I love how the tags came out. They are so sweet and so cute.  And they are fun to make.

“Reach For It” Art Journal Page

“Reach For It” Art Journal Page

After playing in my Dylusions art journal the other day I decided to make another art journal page the next day because I enjoyed playing in the journal so much the day before. ¬†I didn’t have a plan just like the previous day and I seem to have more fun that way. I wanted to use up more of my “stuff” so I decided on the journal paper on the left side of the page, some washi tape and a bunch of paper die cut flowers I have had in a box for some time. ¬†By the way, that box does not dwindle. It’s still as full as ever. ¬†What is up with that? lol ¬†Then, I set about just playing and I like what I wound up with. ¬†I need to make an effort to journal in my art journals at least once a week. ¬†ūüôā

“Happy Flower Girl” Prim Play Art Journal Page

“Happy Flower Girl” Art Journal Page

I was in the mood to do some playful art journaling so I grabbed up my larger, and sorely neglected, Dylusions art journal and started slapping down some paint without a plan other than just have some fun. ¬†After a while I started seeing some sections of the pages that looked like a flower and hair so I started building on those areas. ¬†That is how this playful, prim looking girl showed up. ¬†I call her “Happy Flower Girl” for a reason but it’s a little personal so I’ll leave her story to your imagination. I think I have more fun when I have no plan and don’t care what the outcome is so I need to stop hiding from my journal and use it more often than I do. ¬†Have fun playing in your art journals. ūüôā

“Friendly Flowers” May Calendar Page Using 2016 Calendar For Inspiration

“Friendly Flowers” May Calendar Page

Each month I create a journal page in my calendar for the previous year using the art in the calendar as inspiration for my page. ¬†May’s calendar page is called “Friendly Flowers”. I used a piece of paper bag from my “Junk Your Stuff” project that had the words “friendly flowers” on it because I thought it was so cute. ¬†I really enjoy working in my calendar each month and as the year goes by I mark in the new current calendar so that when the year is over I can start creating in it for the following year. ¬†Here are photos of the May calendar page and a link to the video. ¬†I hope you feel inspired to do something creative. ūüôā
