I am very excited to share my first project for the Roben-Marie Smith Design Team 2018. I am in love with Roben-Marie’s Art Pops collections. They are so vibrant and colorful. I decided to create a doll using Roben-Marie’s cards, stickers and stamps. She was really fun and turned out so darn cute. I invite you to watch the step by step process video. Just follow the link I give above or below this post to Roben-Marie’s blog where you can find all the information you need to watch the video and make your own mixed media art doll.
This past December I wanted to make some ornaments for my tree. While I love the look of typical Christmas ornaments and colors I found myself pulling out all sorts of colors to make my ornaments. I had just finished making some bracelets with wire and beads, you can see those in the previous blog post, so I kept with that line of thinking to make my ornaments. I made circles with wire leaving a tiny hooked area at the top of hanging, wrapped the wires with fabrics and fibers then wrapped the wire with more wire strung with beads. To finish off the ornaments I tied strips of ribbon all around the ornament and added ribbon at the top in the hook for hanging. I really love how these turned out. So much so that they never made it on to my tree. I hung them in a cluster in my art studio so I can see them every time I am creating. Maybe next Christmas I’ll be ready to use them on my tree. Until then, I get to enjoy them all year-long.
Thank you for stopping by. It’s always nice to see you. I hope you enjoy the photos below.
I rarely make jewelry but when I was making my beaded charms last year I thought I would make a few bracelets just for fun. I made two bracelets using wire to make my bracelet shape. I took some wire, any gauge you like is fine as long as you can bend it easily, and formed a circle the size I would need to slip over my wrist. Then I made it a tiny bit bigger to account for wrapping various items around the wire. Once I got the size I wanted I looped the wire ends together and wrapped them around each other. Then I wrapped the wire with fabric and glued it at the end to finish it off. Then I wrapped fibers, trims and twine around the bracelet adding a bee charm to one of them. I tied the ends off to secure the trims. Then, I made a third bracelet simply by stringing some wood beads on a piece of monofilament I cut to the size I needed for my bracelet. I finished that one off with a jewelry clasp. Lastly, I made a fourth bracelet using garment pins. I just added some tiny beads to each garment pin and then hooked them together. I left one garment pin empty of beads to use for the closure. I love that they are so basic and simple. I probably broke a lot of “jewelry making” rules since I was just “winging it” but I’m ok with that. 🙂
Happy Valentines Day! It seemed like the perfect day to share this heart I made. I took some wire and formed a heart shape then wrapped it with fabric, and fibers. I also strung some tiny beads on some thin wire and wrapped that around the heart too. I added a large red wood bead at the inner tip of the heart and added a strip of fabric at the top to hang the heart by. Super easy and fun. I hope you all have a wonderful day today.
Can you believe January is almost over!!! All I did was blink and poof, it was gone. lol
I have a little project I worked on last year that I never shared with you guys. I have some rolls of burlap that I really love and I thought I would use some of it to create a little journal. Inside the journal I used up some 12 x 12 scrapbook paper I have had for a while. I just cut the 12 x 12 paper in half making them 12 x 6 pieces. On the outside I used a lot of left over fibers I had in my stash as well as fabric, trim and lace scraps. I used an old button and a piece of twine for the closure and the twine wraps around the journal giving it room to grow a little bit. The tag on the front of the journal is a tag I used to wipe off excess paint from another project. I left it in that ‘unfinished’ state and just glued it to the front of the journal. I really like how that looks. I also added a smaller bit of lace scrap and a button to the tag. I think it’s really cute and I love all of the texture and color it has. It’s amazing what you can do with your scraps and leftover papers. Give it a try.
A few months ago I was sitting in my art room making little pins using up some of my beads from various materials while I listened to classical piano playing on my cd player in combination with my sweet beagle snoring as she slept in her bed near me. I wanted to use up some of the beads I had kept in my bead box for a long time as well as use up some of the fabric beads I made earlier last year. I also wanted to use up some of the hat and floral pins I had on hand. I have two types. One type has a white top on the pin and the other has a green top on the pin. I wasn’t crazy about the green top ones for all the pins I was making so I took some of my Ranger Alcohol Inks and painted the tops different color combinations. I really like how they came out. You can use them on tags, ATC’s, in your journals and any way you can think of. Or, you can do what I do and just display them on a pretty pin cushion just to enjoy looking at until you have a need for them.
Again with the paper bags? Yep…again. lol And trust me there will be more paper bags to come. This little guy is so cute. It’s a smaller bag and it was the perfect size for ATC’s. So, this bag turned into a little ATC book. If you aren’t familiar with what an ATC is it stands for Artist Trading Cards. They are little 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 cards you make to trade with other artist or to just make for fun of it. If you would like to see how to make this book you can go to the link below and watch the process video. I didn’t take more photos of the inside pages but you can see them in the video. Start saving those paper bags. They make such cute projects.
Last week I made my first fabric beads. You can see those in the previous blog post. Of course I had to use them in some projects. I made some charms and a key chain. I just love them. They can hang anywhere. I plan to hang one on my purse. I also used one of my beads on a long hat pin. I forgot to take a photo of it but you can see it in the video and the link for the video is below. I really enjoyed making these and I just love the way the beads I made and the other beads I used look together. I especially love the fibers on the beads I made. I have a few other projects I am working on where I used my beads and at some point I will show them in a video and/or on my blog post. Until next time have fun creating!
A month or two ago a YouTube subscriber asked me if I had a video on making fabric beads. I did not have a video about it because I had never made any paper or fabric beads before. She asked if I would mind showing my take on making fabric beads and I said I would. When I had some time, I sat down and started making some fabric beads using scraps from my scrap bin. I found it relaxing and fun to do. Once I had a few beads made I then made some charms with them. They are so cute. So, there is now a video on how I make my fabric beads and next week I will share how I made my charms. A link to the beads video is below. Use up some of your scraps and make some pretty beads. It’s fun. 🙂
