Mixed Media Bunny Canvases Using Wood Garland

Burlap Bunny Canvas

With Easter right around the corner I have had bunnies on my mind.  Probably not a shock right? lol About two years ago I bought a bunny garland from Target (photo below) with the intention to take apart the garland and make something with it.  As with most of my good intentions the garland wound up in a drawer.  I decided this was going to be the year that I actually did something with that garland so, today, I took apart the garland and started playing.  I created two canvases which I think are super cute and I have three more bunnies I will make something with in the next few days.

They are super easy to make and you don’t have to have a garland to make one.  Just find an image of a bunny that you like, the size you like and print it out.  From the image you can make a cardboard or card-stock bunny, decorate it, then use it on your canvas.  One of my canvases is burlap and all I did was distress the edges with Walnut Stain by Ranger.  The other canvas I used a piece of drop paper and glued it to the canvas. Then I added paint, some stamping (stamps are from Roben-Marie Smith), markings and some rub-ons until I was happy.  Then I added my bunnies and some flowers and embellishments.  I really love how they turned out.

These would make cute gifts no mater what time of year it is.  I plan on hanging mine in my art studio year round and just enjoy looking at them. I hope you will give it a go.

See you soon,
Laurie

Boho Artsy Ornaments

Boho Artsy Ornaments

This past December I wanted to make some ornaments for my tree.  While I love the look of typical Christmas ornaments and colors I found myself pulling out all sorts of colors to make my ornaments. I had just finished making some bracelets with wire and beads, you can see those in the previous blog post, so I kept with that line of thinking to make my ornaments.  I made circles with wire leaving a tiny hooked area at the top of hanging, wrapped the wires with fabrics and fibers then wrapped the wire with more wire strung with beads. To finish off the ornaments I tied strips of ribbon all around the ornament and added ribbon at the top in the hook for hanging.  I really love how these turned out.  So much so that they never made it on to my tree.  I hung them in a cluster in my art studio so I can see them every time I am creating.  Maybe next Christmas I’ll be ready to use them on my tree. Until then, I get to enjoy them all year-long.

Thank you for stopping by.  It’s always nice to see you. I hope you enjoy the photos below.

ATC Paper Bag Book

ATC Paper Bag Book

Again with the paper bags?  Yep…again. lol  And trust me there will be more paper bags to come.  This little guy is so cute. It’s a smaller bag and it was the perfect size for ATC’s.  So, this bag turned into a little ATC book.  If you aren’t familiar with what an ATC is it stands for Artist Trading Cards. They are little 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 cards you make to trade with other artist or to just make for fun of it.  If you would like to see how to make this book you can go to the link below and watch the process video.  I didn’t take more photos of the inside pages but you can see them in the video.  Start saving those paper bags. They make such cute projects.

See you next time. 🙂

Creating Pages In My “Junk Your Stuff” Junk Journals From Paper Bags

My Personal Junk Your Stuff Journals

I decided to create a Part III video to the “Junk Your Stuff” Junk Journal From Paper Bags project. I wanted you to see how I work in my journal and hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration for working in yours journals.  I also mentioned in one of my videos how the “Pockets and Posies” pockets would look great in these journals.  I made one and love it. There will be photos of it below.  Here are some photos of the pages I created in my junk journal as well as a link to the video showing you how I created it. I hope you feel inspired.

“Junk Your Stuff” – Junk Journals From Paper Bags

Junk Your Stuff – Paper Bag Junk Journals

A few weeks ago, I was cleaning out a cabinet in my kitchen where I keep plastic and paper bags. When I saw the stack of paper bags (see above photo) I had kept from grocery shopping trips I thought, hmmm, I don’t need all these bags so I will throw them away.  At the time I was saving them I was thinking I really wanted to make something artsy with them but the stack kept growing and nothing artsy was being made.  So, I grabbed the entire stack and set them on the counter to be tossed out when I was done.  When I was finished with the cabinet cleaning, I walked over to the paper bags and picked them up to carry out to the trash can.  But I hesitated. The crinkly sound the bags made and the feel of the paper was sooooo appealing. lol  I thought, ok, I need to make something with these bags. But I made myself a deal. I could keep the bags as long as I actually used them to make something. If I didn’t start using them that week they were going in the trash. So, I took them up to my art studio to await their fate. lol  The very next day I started making my Junk Your Stuff journals.  I worked my way through each and every paper bag.  Then, I went through my drawers and storage containers and pulled out all kinds of stuff I have been wanting to use up to decorate them.  I have to say I am very pleased that I used all of the bags and I love how they turned out.  I hope you enjoy the photos below and there is also a link to the video where I show you how I made them.  Now, go Junk Your Stuff! 🙂
